The One Guest We All Missed But Attended Meghan’s Baby Shower
Meghan had a very special trip to “the big apple” this week. All of her closest friends came to New York to throw the Duchess a baby shower. From Meghan’s best friend Jessica Mulroney to her former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer everyone attended the baby shower, but there was a guest you didn’t see arriving at Mark Hotel on Wednesday – Serena William’s daughter Alexis Olympia. The child was seen with her nanny just outside the venue.
The one-year-old enjoyed a party of her own before going to New York with her mother. Serena, who doesn’t like to celebrate birthdays, had a carnival themed party for her daughter last week, with train rides, and a sweet shop named ‘Olympia’s Candy Shop.’ On Instagram, she shared some photos from the celebration, and said: “I wanted to just do something fun because we don’t do birthdays.”
Other guests at the baby shower included Amal Clooney, Meghan’s royal wedding makeup artist and close friend, Daniel Martin, and Pilates instructor Taryn Toomey. The Duchess certainly didn’t do things by halves when it came to the special celebration either.
A big delivery was seen arriving at the hotel Meghan was staying at ahead of the celebration, which appeared to be party favours. Harpist Erin Hill was also seen arriving with her harp, while a large cotton candy machine was wheeled into the hotel. It is thought that the guests started the afternoon with a flower arranging class while chowing on sweet treats by the hotel’s head chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
The Duchess arrived in New York on Saturday and started off the trip with a visit to the Laduree in SoHo for macarons and tea. “It was on Saturday but it was a totally private visit,” a source told HELLO!. She has previously opened up about how much she likes the bakery, calling it a “little slice of Paris in the middle of New York City.” During the trip, the Duchess also enjoyed a lot of shopping trips in the city and is said to have purchased many new clothes for the baby to bring back to the UK.
