Serena Williams Just Revealed Archie Travelled With Meghan To New York
Serena Williams has confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex did take baby Archie to New York back in September.
At the time, it was assumed that Meghan made a last-minute trip to New York City so she can support her good friend Serena Williams without husband Harry and son Archie.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, Serena explained: “She flew all the way with a newborn to see me play in New York and flew all the way back that night, and I probably couldn’t have done that.
“That kind of goes to show you what an amazing person she is. That’s just one of the many things that she does for me. I call her, text her anytime crying, upset. She’s always there and doesn’t matter what she’s going through, she just sets time away, and she’s just so amazing.”
Meghan flew from London Heathrow with her son on a commercial flight that left at around 9 am and arrived in New York just after 12 pm.
The Duchess was on hand to support her friend who was defeated by 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the women’s singles at the US Open final.
She watched the game from the Williams’ box where she sat behind Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, and in front of Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour.
Speaking of the pressure Meghan faces being in the royal family, Serena said she couldn’t imagine the level of scrutiny her friend has to deal with.
“I’m not sure that many people can relate on that level, I don’t think I can. I just think she’s the strongest person I know, the nicest, sweetest…” Of Meghan flying over to watch her play, the sports star continued: “It really does show you what an amazing person she is and that’s just one of the many things she does for me.”
The Duchess and Serena became pals after meeting at a Super Bowl party in 2010 and have kept in close contact ever since.
She had opened up about her friendship with the tennis ace in her now-defunct blog, The Tig. “We hit it off immediately, taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing in, and chatting not about tennis or acting, but about all the good old fashioned girly stuff.
So began our friendship… and she quickly became a confidante I would text when I was travelling, the friend I would rally around for her tennis matches, and the down-to-earth chick I was able to grab lunch with just a couple weeks ago in Toronto.”
