Princess Of Wales Takes On An Incredible New Patronage
New patronage for the new Princess of Wales! On Tuesday, Buckingham Palace announced that Kate has become the Patron of Captain Preet Chandri’s expedition across Antarctica.
Preet has her sights set on a greater challenge – to become the first woman to complete a solo and unsupported journey across the entire continent of Antarctica, which will see her travel over 1,000 miles. She’ll push through temperatures of -68°F and winds up to 60 mph, hauling 265 lbs. worth of gear on a sleigh.
Last winter, she made history as the first woman of color to reach the South Pole alone by trekking 700 miles from Hercules Inlet in an unsupported expedition.
In recognition of her accomplishment, she was awarded an MBE in Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday Honours List.

Speaking about Kate’s patronage, Preet said: “My aim for this expedition has always been to inspire people to push their boundaries. I want to bring people on this journey with me, to help them believe that nothing is impossible.”
She added: “It is an absolute privilege to have The Princess of Wales as the Patron.
Princess Kate has also shared her first statement after she became the Patron of Captain Preet Chandi’s expedition across Antarctica.
Taking to Twitter, she said: “Proudly supporting Captain @PreetChandi10’s extraordinary challenge to become the first woman to cross Antarctica solo and unsupported.”
The announcement of the patronage came shortly after the Princess of Wales’ next engagement was confirmed following a three-week break.
The royal couple will be traveling up North on November 3rd, where they will be launching funding to support young people’s mental health.
The visit will see Prince William and Kate meet with various local organizations, that will benefit from the funding that has come out of the collaboration between The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Two Riding Community Foundation.
