The Queen Received A Very Unusual Christmas Gift From Kate
Itās a hard task to find Christmas presents for your in-laws, but itās probably even harder when your grandmother-in-law happens to be the Queen of England herself.
Keeping with the German traditions set by King George VI, the royal family exchange gifts on Christmas Eve each year.
Typically, they stick to gag gifts rather than sentimental presents, because what do you buy someone who has everything?
In the early years of her life as a royal, Kate Middleton chose to step away from the tradition and get the Queen something different.
āI thought, āIāll make her something,ā-Kate told BBC, āWhich could have gone horribly wrong.ā
Instead of getting her a classic joke gift, Kate cooked up a batch of chutney using a family recipe that had been passed down from her own grandmother. She mustāve been quite relieved when she found out the Queen was pretty pleased with the gift.
āI was slightly worried about it,ā said Kate, āBut I noticed the next day that it was on the table.ā
But Kate is not the only one though whoās skipped out on the joke gift tradition, as Princess Diana didnāt know gag gifts were the go to.
Dianaās first Christmas as a royal saw her gift the members of the royal family a cashmere sweater and mohair scarf.
While the members of the family were amused by the gifts, Dianaās sweet gifts showed her giving nature, and sheās said to have taken their light teasing quite well.
As for Meghan, the newest royal member ā thereās no word yet on what gifts she gave the family for her first Christmas as a royal.
Given her sense of humor weāre sure they wonāt have any problems with the gifts.
