Why Wasn’t The Queen Once Pleased With Kate?
A royal expert claims that back when Kate Middleton first joined the royal family, the Queen thought that she “didn’t do much.”
The Queen wasn’t exactly what you would call impressed by Kate Middleton when she first became part of the royal family, it is claimed. Kate Middleton and Prince William said their wedding vows in 2011, after more than a decade of being together. Unlike Meghan, who was just tossed in the royal life, Kate had years to get used to life in the royal spotlight. But it seems that didn’t help, as the Queen was reportedly unimpressed by her work ethic after the wedding.
Royal expert Phil Dampier, who has been reporting on the royal family for over 20 years, has talked about why Kate gradually started doing engagements, with the reason being that William was protective of her.
He said: “Kate was William’s girlfriend for eight or nine years before they got engaged and got married.
“There was a phase where she appeared to be doing very little really.
“The Queen once remarked Kate doesn’t do very much so I think she had a fairly long entrance to the Royal family.”
Kates very first royal engagement came in 2010 when she attended a Teenage Cancer Trust event in Norfolk. After her wedding, the Duchess of Cambridge started slow, gradually doing more and more public events, which is a stark contrast to how Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex entered her royal life after marrying Prince Harry.
Mr Dampier states that William was protective of Kate because of what happened to his mother, Princess Diana.
He explained: “William, because of what happened to his mother, was very protective of her and always has been since then.
“She only does what she wants to do and is comfortable with and isn’t put under too much pressure and scrutiny.
“His family’s been his number one priority”.
Kate and William met at St Andrew’s University in 2001 and 10 years later they finally got married. Meghan and Harry, on the other hand, met in July 2016 and got married in Windsor Castle in May this year.
Mr Dampier recently released a new book, Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan in their own words take a closer look into their relationship.
He added: “The thing we tend to forget is that Meghan at 37 is older than the other three.
“She’s had this life and successful acting career before she came to the Royals, she’s got a confidence that she had to have got get on in life and fight for things herself.”
