How Meghan ‘Broke Royal Protocol’ At British Fashion Awards?

Fans were delighted to see Meghan Markle make a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards last night. The Duchess looked simply amazing in a floor-length, one-shoulder gown with her hair slicked back in her classic bun.

Meghan had the honour of presenting the British Designer of the Year Womenswear Award to Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, who is actually the one who designed her wedding dress.

As Meghan was cradling her growing baby bump, some eagle-eyed royal watchers noticed something about the Duchess’ outfit that is considered as a no-no by the royal family.

What is this misstep you might ask?

Meghan was seen wearing dark nail polish-which goes against royal etiquette that dictates that royals wear only natural colour during official appearances.

The Queen is a strict follower of the rule, as she has worn the same shade of nail polish for over 30 years-a  £7.99 bottle of Essie’s ‘Ballet Slippers’ shade. Reportedly, she finds coloured nail varnish to be “vulgar”.

Meghan, a well known royal rule breaker, sported dark burgundy nails for the event at the Royal Albert Hall.

This isn’t the first time the Duchess of Sussex has to bend the rules, as she has done so on multiple royal engagements.

Meghan went with nude nails when she announced her engagement to Prince Harry in November 2017. She also decided to ignore the rule on her wedding day at Windsor Castle in May this year, when Harry slipped a wedding ring onto his new wife’s perfectly pale pink manicured finger.

At Prince Charles 70th birthday garden party at Buckingham Palace later the same month, the new royal Meghan showed the public her nude nails as she stifled a giggle.
