‘Princess Diana Would Be Proud Of Harry’: Fiji President Pays Tribute To Diana

Prince Harry and wife Meghan have enjoyed a reception dinner at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva hosted by the president of Fiji.

During his speech, Jjoji Konrote, the president of Fiji, paid tribute to Harry’s late mother Diana.

He said he was sure Diana would be “proud of the man” Harry had become and that he had found happiness and love with Meghan.

Speaking at the event, Prince Harry said: “This visit is particularly nostalgic for us as a young married couple – my grandparents stayed in this very hotel, the Grand Pacific, a number of times over the years

“It is  a great pleasure for Meghan and me to be your guests here tonight on our first visit to Fiji.

“We were overwhelmed by the warm Fijian welcome we received from the people of these beautiful islands this afternoon in Albert Park, and all the way from the airport.”

Harry said the UK and Fiji share “Commonwealth values and goals” as well as a fondness for rugby and a sense of humour.

“All over the world Fiji is renowned for its incredible natural beauty and hospitality,” Harry added.

“We, as a couple, feel very lucky to be spending part of our tour as your guests.

“Fiji is a proud and vibrant culture whose people are so gentle but proud, honourable and resourceful.

“Your country has demonstrated its fortitude and resilience by rebuilding your communities following the devastating Cyclone Winston two years ago.

“You continue to smile, you continue to have hope, and you continue to share what you have with others.”

“It really is a privilege to be here.”

Duchess Meghan looked stunning in a blue Safiyaa Ginkgo cape dress for the state dinner. Harry wore a black suit and bow tie, and hold Meghan’s hand as the couple made their way into the dining hall.

Earlier on the same day, hundreds of royal fans gave a warm welcome to Harry and Meghan as thet arrived in Fiji.

Meghan was a vision in a white long-sleeved dress by Australian brand Zimmermann and a matching Stephen Jones hat. She carried a black Kaya Anna clutch and wore black heels. She completed her look with earrings she received from the Queen, and a bracelet from Prince Charles.

Harry opted for a simple grey suit and skinny black tie. He also wore three military medals on his jacket.

Meghan donned a sophisticated long-sleeved cream dress by Zimmerman and a matching Stephen Hones hat, finishing her look off with a dazzling pair of earrings gifted to her by The Queen and a intricate bracelet from Prince Charles.

After they met with the President they headed to an official welcome ceremony in Albert Park.

The couple watched the traditional ceremony known as veiqaravi vakavanua with dance performances and a ceremony. During that time Prince Harry was offered Fiji’s national drink, kava, served in a coconut shell.

The ceremony, known as the Veirqaraqaravi Vakavanua, embodies Fijian cultural identity and heritage.

Prince Harry greeted fans in Fiji. He said: “Bula venaka!” and subsequently, “Vinaka vakalevu” which means “Thank you very much”.
