When Will Princess Kate Make Her Next Public Appearance After Completing Chemo?
Kate Middleton isn’t fully back to public-facing duties just yet.
On Monday, Sept. 9, the Princess of Wales, 42, announced in a video message that she had finished chemotherapy treatment, nearly six months after revealing that she was undergoing treatment for cancer in a March 22 video.
Although Kate has concluded her treatment, she is not making a full return to her public duties.
PEOPLE understands that the princess is set to undertake a light schedule of work between now and the end of the year. This will include a handful of public engagements over the coming months as part of her gradual return to public duties, and decisions about 2025 will be taken in line with medical advice.
PEOPLE also understands that she is now working from home on projects — including her work relating to early childhood education — for the next few months. However, she is likely to make an appearance alongside the rest of the royal family in November for Remembrance Day, which this year will take place on Nov. 10, and planning has begun for her annual carol concert in December at Westminster Abbey.
As Kate said in her latest message, being cancer-free is her focus, and it will take time. However, she is looking forward to undertaking public engagements in the coming months when she can, PEOPLE understands. As Kate herself said in a June statement, she experiences “good days” and “bad days,” and the focus remains on her recovery.
The princess has been mostly absent from public life this year, following her planned abdominal surgery in January. She has only been seen in an official capacity twice in 2024 — first at Trooping the Colour in June, and about a month later on July 14 at Wimbledon, alongside her daughter Princess Charlotte and her sister Pippa Middleton.
Two months after her abdominal surgery, the Princess of Wales announced in a video that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was receiving chemotherapy.
In her emotional video message filmed last month in Norfolk, where her family has a country home, the princess — along with her husband, Prince William, 42, and their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — spoke candidly about her cancer treatments and her journey to recovery.
“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” Kate said in the clip alongside footage of the family spending time together in the countryside. “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.
“…I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can,” she continued. “Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”
