Prince William And Kate Forced To Cancel Trip To Belize After Protest From Locals
Prince William and Kate have been forced to cancel a major visit planned for the start of their Caribbean tour after local residents made it clear they didn’t want the royals there. Prince William and Kate had been due to begin their visit to Belize with a tour of a cacao farm in Indian Creek. However, they have now been forced to find another location after residents opposed their royal trip.
According to reports, a protest was staged on Friday opposing the royal visit to Akte ‘il Ha cacao farm in Indian Creek, describing the visit as ‘colonialism’ and a ‘slap in the face’.
They are said to be particularly outraged that the royal helicopter was given permission to land on their football field without consultation.
The chairmen of Indian Creek village, Sebastian Shol, told the DailyMail: “We don’t want them to land on our land, that’s the message that we want to send. They could land anywhere but not on our land.
“For us it really hits right at home because of the treatment. The organizer said we had to let them use the football field and that people were coming to our village and it had to look good.
“But they didn’t want to divulge who. Eventually, somebody said it was Prince William coming to our village. That’s where the first issue arose. These are high-profile people, we respect them, but they also have to be giving respect to the community leaders. Giving community leaders commands did not sit well with the community.”
Prince William and Kate are due to arrive in Belize on Saturday afternoon. They will receive a welcome from at the airport from the country’s Governor General Froyla Tzalam and later travel to the center of Belize City for an official meeting with Prime Minister Johnny Briceno.

During the couple’s eight-day tour, they will visit the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Belize, with the goal of ‘strengthening’ the Commonwealth nations’ support for the British monarchy ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations this summer.
