How Princess Eugenie Broke Royal Tradition With Birth Of Son August
Princess Eugenie recently celebrated the first birthday of her son, little August who was born on 9 February last year, however, he was introduced to the world in a very modern way, through social media!
More specifically, hours after August was born in 2021, Princess Eugenie shared a touching black and white photo of her and husband Jack Brooksbank holding the little royal’s arm to their Instagram account, captioning the photo with three blue hearts.
As per tradition, royal babies make their first public appearance outside the hospital mere hours after being welcomed to the world, the Duchess of Cambridge, Duchess of York and Princess Diana all following this tradition.
However while past royal births have been announced within hours of them occurring, Eugenie’s birth was confirmed more than ten hours after August arrived.
Similarly, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed son Archie in May 2019 we first got a glimpse of their newborn two days after his birth via a video call and a brief interview at Windsor Castle, they of course also announced the special moment on their @SussexRoyalInstagram account.
The birth of Princess Eugenie’s little boy was also confirmed in a statement from the Palace, reading: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9 February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present. The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news.
“This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
As August turns one we’ve been seeing sweet updates of his journey throughout his first year on Eugenie’s social media. Personal snaps from his milestone this week included snaps from a family skiing holiday and at a baby playgroup.
