Prince William And Kate Attend Royal Variety Performance

On Monday, Prince William and Kate stepped out for a glamorous night out at the Palladium Theatre. The couple are attending the Royal Variety Performance, an annual event in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, of which the Queen is Patron, and the money raised from the show helps hundreds of entertainers throughout the UK, who need help and assistance as a result of old age, ill-health or hard times.

The evening is hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan. Sir Rod Stewart, the cast of Mary Poppins, Lewis Capaldi, Mabel, Robbie Williams, the cast of Come From Away, and a special collaboration by Emeli SandĆ© and Manchesterā€™s Bee Vocal choir are all scheduled to perform.

This will be William and Kateā€™s third time; they attended in 2014 when the Duchess was expecting Princess Charlotte and then again in 2017 when she was pregnant with Prince Louis.

Today, William and Kate also shared four photos on their Kensington Royal Instagram account;  including a black and white photograph of the Queen arriving for the event in 1952, with The Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Margaret.

Another photo shows the royals attending the event in 2014, when Kate donned a black lace Diane von Furstenberg Zarita creation.

The third photo shows Kate shaking hands with one of the performers waring a wore a sparkling pale blue gown by Jenny Packham, with a sheer overlay embellished with hundreds of shimmering crystals.

In the fourth Prince William is caught having a conversation with Dame Joan Collins, as Torvill and Dean look on in the background.

The caption explains: ā€œThe origins of the Royal Variety Performance date back to 1912 when King George V and Queen Mary agreed to attend a ‘Royal Command Performance’ at the Palace Theatre in London, in aid of the Variety Artistes’ Benevolent Fund.

“In July 1919, the second Royal show was performed and was the first to be billed a “Royal Variety Performanceā€, before becoming an annual event in 1921.

ā€œThis will be the third time that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have attended the performance, following their attendance in 2014 and 2017.ā€
