Prince Harry And Meghan Just Received A New Title
Few months ago, Prince Harry and Meghan joined Instagram with their @SussexRoyal account.
Just five hours and 45 minutes after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex unveiled their new Instagram account, @SussexRoyal had already amassed 1 million followers, a milestone that Guinness World Records said was reached in record time. Not, they have 9.1 milion followers.
The previous record was held by Korean pop star Kang Daniel, who hit the mark in 11 hours and 36 minutes in January.
On Tuesday, Time magazine its fifth annual roundup of the 25 Most Influential People on the Internet. And we are definitely not surprised that Prince Harry and Meghan are part of the list.
The Time writes: “The British royal family is a notoriously tight-knit institution. So when Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, launched an independent social media account on Instagram in April, @SussexRoyal, it was bound to make waves.”
“While baby photos are among @SussexRoyal’s draws, most posts are dedicated to the pair’s work as royals.”
“Each month, in an effort to highlight advocates and organizations focusing on issues such as climate change and mental health awareness, the account rotates the users it follows—a savvy strategy that has driven headlines.”
“The Sussexes’ forward-thinking, cause-oriented approach to social media fits neatly with other ways they are establishing their identity beyond the crown.”
Other famous people who made it to the list are Donald Trump, Ariana Grande, Cardi B.
Last December, it was also announced that Meghan has been shortlisted to be TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year 2018.
According to TIME, the Person of the Year Award is to be bestowed on ‘the person or group of people who most influenced the news and the world—for better or for worse—during the past year.’
And if Meghan wins, she won’t be the first royal to achieve that title. Queen Elizabeth II herself won the award in 1952.
Wallis Simpson also won the Person of the Year award in 1936. She was an American actress who later became the Duchess of Windsor when she married into British Royal family.
