William And Catherine Are Celebrating A Special Anniversary Today
Eight years ago, on November 16, 2010, Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement.
Clarence House released the statement which read: “Prince William and Miss Middleton became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya. Prince William has informed the Queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton’s father.”
Romantic Prince William proposed with a very special ring, that once belonged to his late mother Princess Diana. It’s a huge sapphire stone ringed with ten sparkling diamonds and was groundbreaking at the time.
At that time William talked about its significance: “It’s very special, as Kate is very special. It’s my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have had a fairy-tale romance since meeting as students at St Andrew’s.
And eight years after that during a holiday in Kenya in October 2010, William decided the time was right and he got down on one knee.
Prince William said of their engagement: “The timing is right now, we are both very, very happy. We both have a very good sense of humour and we take the mickey out of each other a lot.”
He added that Kate had “plenty of habits that make me laugh that I tease her about”.
The Prince also revealed that he had planned the special moment for a while and carried his mother’s ring in his rucksack for three weeks! Kate called the moment “very romantic,” before admitting it was a “total shock”.
Soon after the announcement of their engagement, the wedding plans started. And on 29 April 2011, they married at Westminster Abbey with a whopping 26 million watching the event live.
Kate looked stunning in an Alexander McQueen gown. “Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing,” the Palace revealed in a statement on Will and Kate’s wedding day.
“Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterizes Alexander McQueen’s work. ”
Kate assumed the title “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge” and also become the Duchess of Cambridge on the day.
The couple is happily married and enjoys life with their three little angels: George, Charlotte and Louis.
